MEF LATAM M-Commerce Summit is resounding success

On the 22nd of September, MEF hosted its MEF LATAM M-Commerce Summit in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event aimed to explore the topics of micro payments and virtual goods from the perspective of the many varied players in the market including content producers, online games companies, social networks, mobile carriers, billing aggregators, banks and credit card companies and more! Much to our delight, the gathering has already been hailed as a great success, with over 120 attendees from across the MEF membership and beyond giving a resoundingly positive response to the afternoon of panels and discussions, not to mention the fabulous cocktail party at the close of the day. This of course bodes extremely well for the impending MEF event in Miami, MEF Americas 2011:Mobile Content & Commerce.

Ron Czerny, Chairman of MEF LATAM and CEO of Playphone kicked things off for the afternoon with a warm welcome to all the attendees. There followed a full schedule of keynotes and round table discussions with presentations from MEF LATAM General Manager Filipe Roup Rosa on global trends in M-Commerce, Carlos Roseiro, Financial Services & M-Payments Marketing Manager of Vivo gave an overview on financial services opportunities and Massayuki Fujimoto, CEO of Paggo, spoke on the Brazilian opportunity in M-Commerce. Later, Juan Franco, CEO of Mentez, spoke about virtual goods and micro-payments in Latin America and Faissal Houhou, VP of International Business Development at Boku, explored the challenges and opportunities in M-Commerce for billing agreggators.

After the keynotes and several enlightening round table discussions, the evening was rounded off with cocktails at the beautiful Club A in downtown Sao Paulo, sponsored by TIM w.e. where attendees got another chance to mingle and discuss the days events and topics at length.

Many thanks to all our attendees, and indeed all our sponsors for the event, Gold sponsor Movile, and our Bronze sponsors Pure Bros, Spring Wireless, NeoMobile, Supportcomm and WAU Movil, and of course, cocktail sponsor TIM w.e.

We hope you enjoyed the MEF LATAM M-Commerce Summit and we look forward to greeting you at our next major event for the region, MEF Americas 2011 in Miami which, based on the success in Sao Paulo, is set to be absolutely huge!
